Former California Governor Jerry Brown has expressed doubt over President Biden’s ability to win the White House in 2024. Brown suggested that his age may be a hindrance to launching a successful campaign, saying that “we’re not like the old Soviet Union, where they had all those men in the Politburo, people want some fresher faces.”
A recent Monmouth University poll found that 44% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters believe the president should step aside and allow someone else to run as the Democratic Party’s standard-bearer. Only a quarter of respondents said that Biden should seek re-election, and 30% said they had no preference.
Given Biden’s recent missteps, including his handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal and his administration’s spending habits and rampant inflation, it’s hard to say whether he can overcome his challengers to win the White House a second time. The Democrats need someone with fresh ideas and energy to lead the party forward.
It’s clear that the Democrats need to find someone who can energize the party and appeal to a broad base of voters if they hope to win the White House in 2024.
While Biden has yet to announce his official intention for the 2024 presidential race, he has already been challenged by two Democratic primary challengers, spiritual advisor and author Marianne Williamson and Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
