Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has suggested ignoring a Texas judge’s ruling directing the FDA to stop the approval of an abortion pill that was greenlit by the agency more than two decades ago.
But ignoring court rulings you don’t agree with is a dangerous proposition, just as the judge’s decision could have grave consequences. Questions have been raised about the ruling itself, issued by a Trump-appointed judge who opposes abortion, as well as the safety of the medication in question.
While there is much debate over reproductive rights, the judicial system has worked well since Marbury v. Madison, and there are appropriate ways to challenge court rulings you disagree with. Simply disregarding a ruling is not one of them.
