Republicans are seizing on Biden’s struggles with the Latino electorate, accusing Democrats of failing to understand the issues that motivate them. Giancarlo Sopo, a Republican communications strategist who worked on translations for former President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign, criticized the Biden campaign’s word-for-word mistranslations, claiming they are not serious about going after the Hispanic vote.
Biden’s favorability has dropped significantly among Latinos in some polls, making it a key challenge for his reelection campaign to win back their support. If the Democrats want to win back Hispanic voters, they will need to do better. They need a strategy that respects the concerns of the Latino community, not just in their policy positions but also in their personnel positions.
Jess Morales Rocketto, chief of Moonshot Strategies at Equis Research and a former digital organizing director for Hillary Clinton, emphasized the importance of bilingual outreach in presidential campaigns. She cited Bernie Sanders’ successful Spanish-language engagement with Latino voters in 2020 as an example.
Biden’s reelection campaign must adjust and work out the kinks to win back the Latino vote in 2024. Otherwise, Republicans will continue to exploit his struggles with the Latino electorate, accusing Democrats of failing to understand the issues that matter to them.
